The very last verses in the Old Testament (Malachi 4:5-6) and, after four hundred years of silence, the very first message from God in the New Testament (Luke 1:17) boldly proclaim the same truth: God's strategy to "make ready a people prepared for the Lord" involves turning the hearts of parents to their children and children's hearts to their parents.

Families are of critical importance to God's overall purposes. We are not in families for convenience or because of social convention. Families exist because God designed us that way. God planned the family to be the foundational structure for promoting worship, evangelism, discipleship, godly fellowship, learning about God's world and God's ways, studying and loving God's Word, and training to serve Him. All these are ways that God turns our hearts from sin and self to Him, and as the above verses reveal, families are a key instrument in turning hearts.

*On April 27th, 2011 a devastating F-5 tornado roared through our area and delivered a direct hit on Shoal Creek Valley; the valley just on the other side of the ridge, about 4 miles away from our home, as the crow flies. 12 people lost their lives that night on that 2 mile stretch of Shoal Creek Valley Road, including our dear, dear friend and the father of 13 godly children, Tom Lee.
